Most common cause
The same job holds the record lock through another open of the file, usually in a program higher up the call stack.
Other causes
- The same program opens the file twice.
- The calling program read the record for update and then called the program that reads it again.
- The record is locked by another thread of the same job: the message text says so with error code 3.
How to fix it
In the caller read with (N), or UNLOCK before the call.
