Most common cause
An earlier error was not handled and the program stopped. CPF9999 is not the cause: it is the consequence.
Other causes
- A missing MONMSG in a CL program.
- An error in a called program that climbs the call stack.
How to fix it
Look at the message just before it in the job log: that is the real error. Then handle it with MONMSG in CL, or with MONITOR and ON-ERROR in RPG.
