Most common cause
A string is missing its closing quote, or a quote inside the text is not doubled ('O'Brien').
Other causes
- Dynamic SQL built by concatenating values that contain quotes.
How to fix it
Double the inner quotes ('O''Brien'). In dynamic SQL use parameter markers (?) instead of concatenating values.
