Most common cause
In INSERT, UPDATE, MERGE or SET a string is longer than the column or variable. The message gives both lengths.
Other causes
- A CCSID conversion (for example to UTF-8) that increases the bytes needed.
How to fix it
Widen the column, or truncate deliberately with LEFT or SUBSTR.
