Most common cause
A CAST to a character type (or XMLCAST, XMLSERIALIZE) has a length too short to hold the value.
Other causes
- A CAST of a number or date to a VARCHAR that is too short.
How to fix it
Lengthen the CAST's target type until it holds the result.
