What it brought
- Digital signing of objects (programs, service programs, modules, save files) and signature checking; every OS/400 object ships signed
- The QPWDLVL system value: at levels 2 and 3 user profile passwords can be 1 to 128 characters long; it ships at 0
- RPG: free-form calculation specifications (/FREE), qualified names in data structures, ELSEIF and /INCLUDE
- RPG: EXTFILE and EXTMBR to choose which file to open, and easier calls to Java
- Journaling of IFS stream files and directories, and user-defined file systems mountable on an independent ASP
- The LAN-based Operations Console, and device profiles for the service tools
- NetServer with its own setup wizard
